Needing 6 of the final two balls Mahmudullah (43 not out) struck a stunning six in the penultimate delivery to reach to the target. Batting first, hosts Sri Lanka posted a target of 160 riding on brilliant knocks from Kusal Perera (61 off 40 balls) and Thisara Perera (58 off 37 balls). In the tricky run chase, opener Tamim Iqbal’s (50 off 42 balls) knock along with useful contributions from the middle order brought Bangladesh close to the target. Requiring 12 in the last over, Mahmudullah finished off the thriller with a six on the penultimate ball. But the match at the R Premadasa Stadium was marred by drama at the fag end as Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan gestured to his two batsmen to come out of the field apparently in protest against giving a run-out decision to Mustafizur Rahman on a seemingly shoulder-height ball. Bangladesh’s Nurul Hasan, while bringing drinks on the field too had a heated exchange of words with Sri Lankan skipper Thisara Perera. In the end better sense prevailed after arguments between the players of the two sides and intervention by match officials. Post the dramatic finish, Bangladesh players celebrated their win with the Naagin Dance. But the victory was marred after a door of the Bangladesh’s dressing room was found damaged post visitors tensed run chase against Sri Lanka probably having been shattered in the moments of celebration. Bangladesh's team management is understood to have offered to pay for the damage. The ICC is yet to officially comment on the incidents, but is expected to do so on Saturday.
